The talent show had a great turn out. Many people came to watch all of the spectacular performances and support the charity “Doctors without Borders”; a charity bringing medical care to those in need across 70 different countries. This event was made possible by the amazing Key Club Volunteers who helped backstage by ushering as well as making and selling baked goods.
The more traditional acts performed included: a string quartet, walking on stilts, a flute and saxophone duet from “Wicked”, a vocal performance of “Run to You”, a Bengali dance, guitar shredding, a combination of Disney songs played on the flute, and singing and dancing to the song “It’s Gonna Be Me”. More uncommon acts included four mimes, two boys who described their performance as “passionately dancing with a yoga ball”, and stand up comedy, all of which got a red buzzer before each could finish their acts.
Most acts received massive praise from the judges. Positive reactions from the judges included, an “I love it!” from Sophia, a begrudging “performance was outstanding” by Simon, and a “Never stop singing!” from Heidi. Unfortunately, negative reactions from both the judges and audience were both seen at the show as well. Reviews such as an “I am crying, gentlemen please get off the stage” from Simon, a “dreadful, mediocre and horrible” from Howie, and an “I would recommend you get the courage to quit” from Simon were thrown around the auditorium.
Once all of the performances were done, judging took place and awards were given out. The “Golden Buzzer Award” went to Jessica who sang “Run to You”. The “Judges Choice Award” went to the quintet. Finally the “People’s Choice Award” chosen by the audience went to Eddie and Brennan, the boys who sang and danced to “It’s Gonna be Me”. The talent show proved to be a wonderful success as it generated not only the many laughs and praise from both the judges and audience, but also proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders.
