The Winter Semi-Formal
The Winter Semi-Formal was in full swing February 11, the Saturday before break. Taft was decorated with lights, garlands and tablecloths of black and gold. People were chatting, eating cookies and rice krispies, dancing and just having an overall good time. The snack and hot chocolate bar included a variety of cookies, Little Bites muffins and rice krispy treats. DJing provided by Shaker Sound N Lights with notable songs being Super Freaky Girl and Super Bass by Nicki Manaj, Kill Bill by SZA, Eenie Meinie by Justin Bieber and the Macerena by Los Del Rio. The most notable moment of the night had to be when the police officer began to dance with the students! Other notable moments included Limbo and the Conga Line. Special thanks to Key Club secretary Jonah Hymes for always being there to fix some of the mishaps like lights and garlands falling.
From February 6th to 10th, Key Club sold tickets for $10 during lunch to help raise funds for the nonprofit organization, Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls works to provide shoes and clothing to people in need all around the world. Typically, they take donations in the form of clothing and shoes so they don’t go into landfills, however, they also take monetary donations. Their goal is to get shoes and clothes to those in crisis situations, allowing for the money that could be spent to go to a more urgent necessity and create opportunities in developing countries by allowing for entrepreneurship through donated clothes and shoes.
Overall, it was a very successful fundraising event with the Shaker Student body having a lot of fun and Key Club raising a lot of money for Soles4Souls.
